Welcome to the Vancouver Island Opera
The main objectives that Vancouver Island Opera has chosen to fulfill are to promote the appreciation, study and performance of opera throughout The Island communities and to provide opportunities for local talent to participate in operatic productions. To achieve these goals, the Vancouver Island Opera provides a framework for aspiring singers and accompanists to obtain training and experience in voice, acting, diction and study of the operatic repertoire which may possibly lead to future professional careers.The Board of Directors pursues a policy of cooperative liaisons with other organizations such as visual arts, drama, dance, musicians - vocal as well as instrumental in order to share community resources among each other.
2013 OPERA SEASON
The Vancouver Island Opera (VIO) will present its tenth full-length feature production on October 5 (7:30 pm) and October 6 (2:30 pm), with the opera Hansel and Gretel at Knox United Church in Parksville. Excerpts of the opera will subsequently be presented to schools and seniors' facilities in the Oceanside area.
With the principal and several supporting roles sung by young, upcoming operatic talent, opera fans will, again, be assured of a rich production of splendid singing and action.
Complimenting the lead performers, youth and children, will be featured in supporting roles and as extras. The excellent chorus will support the production with their considerable talent and energy.
Our production will be presented under the honorary patronages of The Honourable Judith Guichon, OBC, Leutenant Governor of British Columbia, His Worship Chris R. Burger, Mayor of the City of Parksville and His Worship Teunis Westbroek, Mayor of the town of Qualicum Beach.

The Oceanside Recital Series, under the auspices of the Vancouver Island Opera and as a fund-raising effort, presents a series of winter/spring concerts featuring professional singers and instrumentalists of various genres. Our recitals have been extremely well received and are considered a welcome addition to Oceanside's cultural calendar.
